Sarus Lab is named after the Sarus bird, a large grey colored non migratory crane, with a white collared neck, found in marshy parts of Indian sub continent, South East Asia and northern Australia.

Sarus is the state bird of Uttar Pradesh India. It was declared as the official state bird in 2013.

An Indian 14-seater propeller aircraft, the Saras, is named after this crane too.
